“The Bucktails’ Last Call”, is the story of a young man, Bucky Culp, and his last year in the 13th Pennsylvania reserves. Running away from camp with his friend Hosea Curtis, Bucky runs off to wed the woman he has fallen in love with. Sneaking up on Sarah he is barely able to escape unharmed after Sarah attacks him with the dagger that she has hidden. Thankfully she realizes whom she was attacking before any harm befell Bucky. After marrying Sarah, Culp and Curtis once again must rejoin the Bucktails’ camp. The two narrowly avoid being executed as deserters. Engaging in one skirmish after the next, they soon prove that they are more than just a regiment; they have become a band of brothers. After a traveling professional boxer knocks out Curtis, Private Powers steps up for his brother in arms and deliverers a blow that knocks out said boxer. All the while Bucky is consumed with worry after finding out that he will soon be a father. After fighting a bout with the fever, Bucky receives a surprise visit from Sarah. Finally his time in the Bucktails’ has come to an end. He leaves after they win their last battle. Racing home Bucky is unaware of the grief that awaits him. Will Bucky be able to rise above his grim circumstances or will it weigh him down?

Rich in history, action, adventure, and personality they have introduced another generation to the era of the Civil War. Complete with a bibliography, photos of Civil War reenactors and maps of the Bucktails’ routes complete with dates. Also they have included information on real life Bucktails’, with personal letters, photos, enlistment information, and more. Robertson and Rimer have outdone themselves with their last novel in this series. “The Bucktails’ Last Call”, is an adventurous gem of a novel that all should read.
